In 1989 a group of students started a protest in Beijing. This gathering included the people who wanted to have more democracy and freedom. Then China responded to this protest with the use of tanks, and military power. They killed many people who were protesting. Even though many people got killed there was no change in China. The people still want to change it.
(What is worth fighting for?)
The people in Tiananmen Square believed that they could change China into a freer and more democratic place. The people thought they could have better life if they had a more control over the government. The most recognizable picture during the event was that of the tank man. This picture showed a man standing in front of a line of tanks. I think he was willing to fight for democracy and freedom. He was ready to die for his belief.
I think that in China the people have no right to choose the government they want. The citizens are just controlled by the communist party. If I were Chinese I may have made the same decision as the people in Tiananmen Square. I believe that people should choose there own government and have the right to be free. I imagine that this was what the tank man was prepared to die for.
Many people sacrificed their lives in Tiananmen Square, but their sacrifice did not change the country of China. The government was so scared of the protesters who wanted democracy and freedom that they brought the military into the streets. Even after the massacre in Tiananmen Square the Chinese people are still asking for more freedom to choose.

ReplyDeleteThis blog post cause me to reflect making peacefulness. Peacefulness is comes with freedom. Tank man is making peacefulness by standing in front of tank and try to stop tank from moves. This made me understand easy. I learned that how tank man feels like in front of the tank by reading this blog post. Tank wasn't his fear, it was fear that he cannot find freedom not the tank. He just want to live in China not the other country. It's not fare to go when you did not do anything wrong and go to other place. I like that you made connection with "What is worth fighting for?".
